Things they Don't in Florida - Fiction

Using ChatGPT and similar AI support Mårten Spångberg has developed a series of connected fictional writings. Here the approach has been flipped, instead of writing about or in reference to technology contemporary consumer-available technical support has been the starting point. Without prior experience of text generating AI or prompting the result was not controlled through any other filters than taste and feel. Initially considering that generating text would be efficient and save time what happened was the opposite. Prompting and editing is a work intensive practice through which large amounts of generated text are scrapped and deleted, in particular, if the result isn’t following the training of the AI.

As a choreographer, Spångberg intended to generate fiction that correlated to his practice, which deals with fiction but not with character, plot, story, description, location and development. These were matters that consumer-level text-generating AI had difficulties with thus showing how datasets used for machine learning aren’t just delicate but political, ethical and perhaps even racially, gender and class biased.
