The terms skankers and skanking originate from the 1960s Jamaican dance craze that accompanied ska, the infectiously, bouncy, jazz-inspired precursor to reggae. The title is a nod to Jamaican dance. The lineup and celebration are pan-Caribbean with the inclusion of soca and calypso, the quintessential sounds of Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and others.
Nanaimo Reggae Massive, active in the local music scene since 2007, is an informal collective of reggae enthusiasts and a presenter of live reggae concerts and DJ nights.
