Be sure to check the night skyline over the Backyard Festival-Sunk City as Crimson Coast Dance adds verticality to the annual weekend of music and dancing May 16 to 18.

Working with the Festival, Sound Heritage, The Nanaimo Conference Centre, the Courtyard Marriott and A Sigma-1 Environments, Crimson Coast Dance is pleased to project REBO(U)ND by Montreal Danse on the Friday and Saturday nights of Backyard Fest – Sunk City.

Friday the imagery will be visible from the Terminal Bar.

Saturday, with the support of the Nanaimo Conference Centre, the looped film will be seen high on the tower of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel.

“Two years of planning have gone into this project and over that time the Marriott Hotel was completed offering the perfect screen. We are beyond excited to bring this new genre of presenting performing arts to Nanaimo’s skyline!” ~ Holly Bright

REBO(U)ND is a filmed loop of a section of a dance work that has been edited for large scale outdoor projection. It has been presented in Vancouver, Montreal, and European countries. It is a choreography based on the concept of suspension, revealing and magnifying bodies on the verge of escaping gravity and translating the ephemeral moment of the apex, when the dancers float – the space between momentum and drop, between freedom and imbalance, while the body seems to defy space and time.

Projected on urban architectural surfaces, or even outdoor rock walls, REBO(U)ND is offered to the gaze of passers-by and the curious, bringing dance out of theaters and studios. The video mapping allows a game of perceptions by thwarting the notions of duration, gravity, scale and space. A visual experience to be lived and felt, REBO(U)ND is a vibrant tribute to dance that admirably illustrates the sensations of abandonment and freedom that this art provides.

You can listen to the soundtrack here:
