In this 90-minute session, participants will learn a potent and eloquent series of gestures that address the body, the senses and the world around us. Working with a sequence of 5 gestures for the right hand and 6 for the left, we will learn to perform both sequences simultaneously. As the gestures cycle to pair up differently each time, new poetic associations arise.
This technique of cross-patterned gestures is the invention of choreographer Sarah Chase, and is used in several different forms within unmoored.
Seniors welcome.
ALSO: This class is accessible with the consideration that participants will move their arms and hands. Those who use manual wheelchairs will be able to fully participate while using power chairs will create limitations.
No experience necessary for the workshop! Try something new and have an opportunity to learn from one of Canada’s most acclaimed dancers! If you have taken dance classes before, welcome back!
Please arrive at least 10 minutes early.
We encourage you to bring water and wear comfortable clothes. Be prepared to work in barefoot or bring shoes with a clean sole. Registration will require that you sign a waiver of release for liability and/or photography.
