Each year a youth advisory council, ‘The Body Talk Cru’, learn how to organize an event of their liking for like-minded teens from the community. Guided by Indigenous facilitators and inspired by a multitude of artists and professionals, this next generation of world leaders learns what it is like to have their visions come to life, their interests valued and their voices heard.
They meet regularly, curate and plan. They take roles, try new things, enjoy fun excursions (this Covid year, they were excursions of creativity) and then they, too, participate in the spring break workshop that shines the light on performing arts through culture, dance, song, rap writing and performance. Uniquely the learning and the week is contextualized through Coast Salish practices and protocol.
Crimson Coast Dance is honoured to support the youth’s learning and to bring the community together to celebrate them at the public presentation that culminates after their week of classes.
Send your teen, attend the presentation, and enjoy the first steps to leadership by these inspiring and inspired youth.
Every year is different and this year we get to work with these accomplished, influential artists:
- African dance and drum with Jacky Essombe and the African Village Experience
- Pow wow dance with Notorious Cree
- Coast Salish Teachings by elder, Gary Manson
- Rap writing with Sirreal
- Hip Hop Dance with AJ Megaman
All day - all fun - all teens
