Crimson Coast Dance Society has produced cutting edge professional dance and live performance – by visiting and local artists – in Nanaimo, BC since 1998.

This position of Event Coordinator supports event production, coordination and management as it pertains to festivals produced by the not-for-profit, performing arts sector. The Event Coordinator will share and gain skills in event organization, team work, working with artists from diverse cultures and procedures in preparation for a major performing arts festival, including safety and protocol, cultural competence, marketing and publicity, skillful debrief, statistics gathering and stewardship. To address the current corona virus pandemic, the successful candidate requires fluidity with the ability to pivot and problem solve across a range of responsibilities and weave attention toward live and digital platforms.

About the Position

The position of Digital Stage Technician engages the selected candidate to manage live or on-line event productions as pertains to the not-for-profit, performing arts sector. The Digital Stage Technician will engage current technologies, team work, working with artists from diverse cultures, and procedures used to organize major live or on-line performing arts events.

The Digital Stage Technician will work in close partnership with the Artistic Managing Director, artists, and others on the technical team to stage events such as online workshops, symposiums and performances, which include live-streamed, online, pre-recorded, projections, and innovative digital technologies, or may include live presentations (following safely protocol). All activities will comply with Health Authority Restrictions and Guidelines.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all technical elements of on-line or live workshops and productions.
  • Coordinate sound, video, and other equipment as required.
  • Provide direction, instruction and/or training for performers, staff, other technicians on digital stage techniques and computer technologies.
  • Ensure communication between various disciplines ‘backstage’, technicians, artists and presenters.
  • Participate in debriefs.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Interest and/or experience as a digital stage technician and/or live technician with all required digital knowledge to adapt live events to online
  • Knowledge of current technologies in on-line digital delivery of performance and workshops;
  • Knowledge of digital platforms, broadcast software, stage production methods, processes and techniques;
  • Ability to use a combination of a SaaS stack such as Vimeo, Zoom and Miro, Broadcast systems, youtube;
  • Ability to blend live and digital platforms to create powerful Mixed Reality (MR) experiences;
  • Ability to integrate technology including Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and online platforms;
  • Knowledge and/or experience of events staging;
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations and/or trainings;
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures;
  • Punctual with strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
  • Collaborative team member with the ability to take direction;
  • Multi-tasker; creative; curious; productive; self-motivated; adaptable; responsible; able to both lead and follow;
  • A Vulnerable Sector check by local RCMP is required.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

The successful applicant must be:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
