Crimson Coast Dance Society has produced cutting edge professional dance and live performance – by visiting and local artists – in Nanaimo, BC since 1998.
This position of Event Coordinator supports event production, coordination and management as it pertains to festivals produced by the not-for-profit, performing arts sector. The Event Coordinator will share and gain skills in event organization, team work, working with artists from diverse cultures and procedures in preparation for a major performing arts festival, including safety and protocol, cultural competence, marketing and publicity, skillful debrief, statistics gathering and stewardship. To address the current corona virus pandemic, the successful candidate requires fluidity with the ability to pivot and problem solve across a range of responsibilities and weave attention toward live and digital platforms.
About the Position
The position of Digital Communications Assistant brings experience in digital communications and marketing within the non-profit, performing arts sector. The Digital Communications Assistant will apply skills in copy writing, graphic design, and social media, as well as team work, promoting artists from diverse cultures, procedures used to promote major performing arts events, cultural competence, marketing and publicity, and skillful debrief.
The Digital Communications Assistant will work in close partnership with the Artistic Managing Director and the Office Administrator, to engage the broader community through various platforms and promote our 2021 season of performing arts activities. All activities will comply with Health Authority Restrictions and Guidelines.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Marketing and Publicity – Support the publicity plan for festival marketing and communications; create post schedules for social media communications, engage with the public through social media communications.
- Work with the team to review and develop a social media strategy.
- Communications – Compile and send bi-weekly promotional e-newsletters using mail-merge; support the coordination of outreach marketing; create membership and Society information displays at festival events.
- Team Support – Compose and/or proofread; update event information for the team and/or website.
- Donor and Corporate Sponsor Stewardship – Strengthen Donor stewardship and build upon the donor and sponsor database. Assist in ensuring corporate sponsorship is featured.
- Post-event follow-up and reporting – Participate in debrief.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Knowledgeable in the use of online marketing including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs;
- Proficiency with content creation, including filming, editing of video promotional materials
- Skilled in communication/contact management programs, website maintenance, CMS database systems, and mail merge;
- Ability to effectively promote Crimson Coast Dance and our connection with community;
- Ability to engage with the community through multiple platforms;
- Ability to produce digital content on multiple platforms;
- Strong organizational skills and able to meet deadlines;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Collaborative team member with the ability to take direction;
- Multi-tasker; creative; curious; productive; self-motivated; adaptable; responsible; able to both lead and follow;
- Knowledge of the non-profit and/or performing arts sector is helpful;
- A Vulnerable Sector check by local RCMP is required.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
The successful applicant must be:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
