Movement Practice

“I am convinced that Gyrotonic reverses aging.” ~ JR, Ladysmith

GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® are sister movement training systems that live under the umbrella name GYROTONIC® Movement Practice. Together or uniquely they develop dynamic core support and a mobile spine and coordinated, moving body.

Please contact us at dance@crimsoncoast.org for information.

The word Gyrotonic comes from the words “gyro”, meaning spiral or circle and “tonic”, meaning to tone or invigorate. It is based on fluid, circular movements using specialized equipment.

By integrating breathing patterns with specially designed movements the nervous system is stimulated. In this method, the Central Nervous System receives a particular work out. Energy flow is revitalized and invigorated, stiffness is released, flexibility, inner strength and coordination are improved, and stress and the risk of injury are reduced. Everyday movement becomes easier and more efficient, resulting in an increase in vitality and well-being. The Gyrotonic practice utilizes specialized equipment with weights. This offers feedback, strengthening and lengthening of the muscles, fascia and breath.

Juliu Horvath created this system by integrating his intensive studies of yoga, dance and gymnastics with his in-depth knowledge of the body. The Gyrotonic Methodology is regarded as an excellent form of exercise and rehabilitation by orthopedists, physical therapists, chiropractors and healthcare practitioners world-wide.

~ Your Gyrokinesis Movement Practice

The root and foundation of Gyrotonic practice, Gyrokinesis, is the core of Juliu Horvath’s methodology. Gyrokinesis is practiced while seated on stools, standing, and with mats on the floor. Like Gyrotonic, yet without equipment, this is a flowing movement class – usually presented in a group class setting – that uses rhythmic, undulating movements to support and develop; dynamic core strength, a mobile spine and coordinated movement and breath. Gyrokinesis classes are also guided by certified instructors.
